What the Client Needed.
A storm the previous week had produced a nearby lightning strike that sent a voltage surge through the home's electrical system. The result: a 65-inch TV, a dishwasher control board, and a chest freezer all needed replacing. The 5kW solar inverter was also showing fault codes and had stopped exporting.
The client's insurer covered the appliance damage but made it clear that future claims would be more difficult to pursue without documented surge protection in place. They wanted the best available solution installed before another storm season.
Kenny assessed the existing switchboard and confirmed it had space for both Type 1 and Type 2 SPDs, providing protection against direct lightning strikes on the supply network as well as smaller internal surges. The solar inverter circuit was included in the protection scope.
