A Brighton homeowner's 1960s ceramic fuse board was constantly tripping and had no safety switches. Kenny replaced it with a modern 12-circuit RCD switchboard, fully labelled and certified, in a single day.
What the Client Needed.
The home was built in the 1960s and still had its original ceramic fuse board with rewireable fuses. The board had no safety switches or RCDs, meaning zero protection against electric shock or earth fault. The client was also preparing to sell the property, and the conveyancer had flagged the old board as a concern.
On top of the safety issues, the board was regularly tripping on the main fuse when multiple appliances ran simultaneously. The kitchen circuit was shared with the laundry, a common setup in older homes that no longer meets current standards.
The goal was straightforward: replace the entire board with a modern consumer mains unit, install RCD protection on all circuits, label everything clearly, and issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the sale file.
How Kenny
Got It Done
Isolate & Remove Old Board
Power isolated at the street. Old ceramic board removed carefully, wiring assessed for condition before the new unit was mounted to avoid any surprises mid-job.
Install New Hager Consumer Mains
12-circuit Hager RCD board mounted and secured. All existing circuits terminated and labelled individually, no guessing what runs where.
RCD Protection on All Circuits
Dual RCD units installed covering all circuits in the home. Every circuit now has automatic shutdown in the event of an earth fault or shock risk.
Load Testing & Balance Check
All circuits tested under load. Kitchen and laundry split onto separate circuits. Balance checked across phases to prevent future nuisance tripping.
Certificate of Electrical Safety Issued
Full compliance test completed on all circuits. Certificate of Electrical Safety issued same day. Handed to client for the property sale documentation.
